May 17 – News

Friends of Faith Baptist of North Chili,

I’m back from the Parkside Basic’s Pastor’s Conference and a week of vacation and Janie’s graduation. All went well and it was both profitable and enjoyable but we are glad to be back home (and sleeping in our own bed)! We brought back our delightful granddaughter, Julianna, and our oldest daughter Jennifer (to spend a week with us). So, we will have a bustling household for a while.

TIME FOR A SMILE

One woman writes:
For all their lives, my three sons have been told they have to do their chores around the house. “I am NOT the maid” is a phrase they’ve heard many times.
When my oldest went off to college, he called me after one week at school. Among the first words he heard at college, he reported, were those of the dormitory maid, announcing to a student who had not picked up after himself in the men’s lavatory, “I am NOT your mother!”

Proper attire is required in the cafeteria at the University of Maine. To enforce that rule, the management posted this notice: “Shoes are required to eat in this cafeteria.”
Next to it, a student added, “Socks can eat wherever they want.”

Sunday, May 20, 2007

* Family Bible Classes – 9:30am
* The Adult Class (meeting in the auditorium) continues the study “Crises and Crowns” — the Old Testament biographies of Samuel, Saul, David and Solomon. This week we will look at 1Samuel 19-20 in which we read about Saul’s growing resentment of David and Jonathan’s loyalty to David.

* Morning Worship – 10:45am
* From John 3:22-30, this Sunday morning’s message title is “He Must Increase.” Our text deals with humility. Specifically, John the Baptist’s humility is what is on display. It’s no wonder that Jesus said (as recorded in Matthew 11:11, “Assuredly, I say to you, among those born of women there has not risen one greater than John the Baptist.) As you read through the text, I think you will agree that John’s greatness is linked to his eagerness to exalt Christ not himself. Do you have that attitude and that kind of humility?

* Evening Celebration – 6:00pm
* This Sunday evening our youth group (Teen Club) will have responsibility for the service. They will be providing special music and reports from their various activities as well as a skit and lessons learned from Scripture. It will be an encouragement to them if you come and rejoice with what God is doing in their midst.

That’s all for this edition of FaithFriends. Pray with me that God’s people will be equipped and encouraged and the lost will hear the good news of the Gospel and trust Christ for their salvation!

Your faithful Minister of the Word,
Pastor Harriman
