June 21 – News

Friends of Faith Baptist of North Chili,

Next week, Tuesday, June 26 to Friday, June 29, Janet and I will be attending the G.A.R.B.C. Annual Conference in Lancaster, PA. I am not sure that I will be able to get out a “FaithFriends” from there. If I don’t get one out, here is a “heads-up.” One of our supported missionaries is scheduled to be here on July 1 and minister to us all day. It is the Dennis Jacob family (with Baptist Mid-Missions) home on furlough from their ministry in Galway, Ireland. We will have a “Picnic In The Grove” (we’re talking about the trees in the backyard of the parsonage) after the morning service, for additional fellowship with the Jacob family.

TIME FOR A SMILE

An applicant was filling out a job application. When he came to the question, “Have you ever been arrested?” he wrote, “No.”
The next question, intended for people who had answered in the affirmative to the previous question, was “Why?”
The applicant answered it anyway: “Never got caught.”

LAWS OF PARENTING
1. The later you stay up, the earlier your child will wake up the next morning.
2. For a child to become clean, something else must become dirty.
3. The longer it takes you to make a meal, the less your child will like it.
4. Yours is always the only child who doesn’t behave.
5. The surest way to get something done is to tell a child not to do it.
6. The gooier the food, the more likely it is to end up on the carpet.
7. Backing the car out of the driveway causes your child to have to go to the bathroom.

* Family Bible Classes – 9:30am
* The Adult Class (meeting in the auditorium) continues studying the Old Testament biographies of Samuel, Saul, David and Solomon. This week we will be in 1Samuel 25. In this chapter we meet the worthless scoundrel Nabal (those are the descriptive terms used of him in Scripture). It seems that God doesn’t allow David to have an easy time in his exile – from this vantage point it looks like character building. But while we are going through similar circumstances, it doesn’t seem so precious.

* Morning Worship – 10:45am
* In John 4:19-26, Jesus continues His conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. They have been talking about worship and that opens the door to a discussion about the difference between the Samaritan religion and the worship of God. Last week we noted from this text that it isn’t the place, it’s the Person that is crucial to worship. We also saw that the hour has come, and that the object of worship is the Father. We have been sneaking up on this Sunday’s topic for a few weeks now, so it is our task to examine what Jesus meant/means when He told the woman “those who worship Him [the Father] must Worship In Spirit and Truth.”

* Evening Celebration – 6:00pm
* This Sunday evening we will continue the series Iof Evangelistic Bible Studies that you could use with your friends and neighbors. I will prepare a handout suitable for that purpose. We started with, “What is WRONG with people today? Then last week we looked at, “What makes the BIBLE an authority?” This week we will consider the oft-repeated idea, “Isn’t RELIGION the source of most (if not all) of the hate and prejudice in the world today?”

That’s all for this edition of FaithFriends. Pray with me that God’s people will be equipped and encouraged and the lost will hear the good news of the Gospel and trust Christ for their salvation!

Your faithful Minister of the Word,
Pastor Harriman
