July 12 – News

Friends of Faith Baptist of North Chili,

This Saturday evening, the 14th, (I guess that’s tomorrow), we will be having a quartet from Pensacola Christian College giving a concert at 7:00 pm. You are welcome to come and enjoy the evening of music and skits.

Next week – Monday, the 16th through Friday the 20th, we are having our Vacation Bible School. The theme is: Rescue Zone / Saved By God’s Power. We have classes for 3 year olds up through 6th grade. We are trusting the Lord for a great week (spiritually) and opportunities to share the Gospel with children who have not yet trusted Christ as well as helping believing children grow in their walk with the Lord. Please join us in prayer for God’s blessing on our human efforts.

TIME FOR A SMILE

The tall, handsome, confident gentleman walked over to the girl and made a disparaging remark about the men who had been chatting her up.
She laughed gaily, “When I don’t want a man’s attentions,” she confided, “and he asks where I live, I just say, ‘I’m visiting here’.”
“Ha-ha,” he laughed, relishing her humor. “Where do you really live?”
“I’m just visiting here.”

A life-long city man, tired of the rat race, decided he was going to give up the city life, move to the country, and become a chicken farmer. He found a nice, used chicken farm, which he bought. Turns out that his next door neighbor was also a chicken farmer. The neighbor came for a visit one day and said, “Chicken farming isn’t easy. Tell you what. To help you get started, I’ll give you 100 chickens.”
The new chicken farmer was thrilled. Two weeks later the new neighbor stopped by to see how things were going. The new farmer said, “Not too good. All 100 chickens died.”
The neighbor said, “Oh, I can’t believe that. I’ve never had any trouble with my chickens. I’ll give you 100 more.”
Another two weeks went by, and the neighbor stops in again. The new farmer says, “You’re not going to believe this, but the second 100 chickens died too.”
Astounded, the neighbor asked, “what went wrong? What did you do to them?”
Well, says the new farmer, “I’m not sure whether I’m planting them too deep or not far apart enough.”

Little Josh was brought to Dr Gill cause he hadn’t eaten anything for days. Dr Gill offered him all the goodies he could think of. No luck. He tried a little scolding. It didn’t work. A little pleading, to no avail. Finally he sat down, faced the boy, looked him in the eye. He said “Look young man, if you can be stubborn, so can I. You’re not going anywhere till you eat something. You can have whatever you want, but only after you have eaten will you leave. ”
Josh just sat and glared for some time, then said “Ok. I’ll eat, but only if I can have exactly what I want and exactly how I want it and you have to share it with me.”
Dr Gill was ok with this. He asked the child what he’d like. “Worms!” said Josh.
Dr Gill was horrified but didn’t want to back out and seem like a loser. So, he ordered a plate of worms to be brought in. “Not that many, just one,” yelled Josh as he saw the plate.
So, everything other than one worm was removed. Josh then demanded that the single worm be cut into two and then Dr Gill eat half. Dr Gill went through the worst ordeal of his life, and after finishing barely managing to keep his cool said, “Ok, now eat!”
Josh refused as he sobbed, “No way! You ate my half!”

* Family Bible Classes – 9:30am
* The Adult Class (meeting in the auditorium) continues studying the Old Testament biographies of Samuel, Saul, David and Solomon. This week we will be in 1Samuel 29-31. There is a possibility we will finish I Samuel this Sunday – should we throw a party? We aren’t actually done with the lesson series we will just be finishing Lesson 6 (of 13), but it will seem like an accomplishment to reach this point in our study.

* Morning Worship – 10:45am
* In John 4:39-54, Jesus leaves Samaria and continues on His way to Galilee. When He arrives in Galilee, He meets a royal official who implores Him to heal his son, who was at the point of death. What happens to this man and his son when he, “Believed the Word That Jesus Spoke”?

* Evening Celebration – 6:00pm
* This Sunday evening we will begin a short series on the topic of Spiritual Warfare. The series will look at things like: Who is the enemy? What are his tactics? and What are our defenses? This week we will examine I John 5:18-21 – which tells us that “the whole world lies under the sway of ‘The Wicked One.'”
