July 26 – FaithFriends

Friends of Faith Baptist of North Chili,

This week I put a quote (unknown source) on our church sign: “Knowing the Bible is one thing – knowing the Author is another!” Just a reminder that we don’t come together to fill our minds with knowledge, since “knowledge puffs up” and we aren’t going for arrogant, we’re going for authentic. I trust that you are experiencing a spiritual hunger that is driving you this summer to strengthen your relationship with the Author, God Himself!

TIME FOR A SMILE

One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her small boy into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor in his voice, “Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?”
The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. “I can’t, Dear,” she said, “I have to sleep with your daddy.”
A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice: “The big sissy.”

When a group of kindergarten students toured the hospital, this conversation was overheard between one little girl and an x-ray technician.
“Have you ever broken a bone?” he asked.
“Yes,” the girl replied.
“Did it hurt?”
“No.”
“Really? Which bone did you break?”
“My sister’s arm.”

Sunday, July 29, 2007

* Family Bible Classes – 9:30am
* The Adult Class (meeting in the auditorium) continues studying the Old Testament biographies of Samuel, Saul, David and Solomon. This week we will study II Samuel 2-4 and see David’s seven-and-a-half year reign as king of Judah and the accompanying civil war.

* Morning Worship – 10:45am
* In John 5:16-23, Jesus has a conversation with the Jews who, a) persecuted Him, and b) sought to kill Him – because He had done “these things” on the Sabbath (presumably that includes healing the man who had a debilitating illness for 38 years). His first statement only made them more enraged and they “sought all the more to kill Him.” The title of this message is, “Honor The Son,” and the question for us to consider is, How does this passage move a person toward believing that Jesus is the Christ? That’s the purpose of John’s gospel as he says in John 20:31.

* Evening Celebration – 6:00pm
* This Sunday evening we will continue a short series on the topic of Spiritual Warfare. This week we will examine “Our Defenses Against the Wicked One.”

That’s all for this edition of FaithFriends. Pray with me that God’s people will be equipped and encouraged and the lost will hear the good news of the Gospel and trust Christ for their salvation!

Your faithful Minister of the Word,
Pastor Harriman
