August 9 – FaithFriends

Friends of Faith Baptist of North Chili,

I will be taking some vacation from August 13 to 27. So, maybe some of you will send me some jokes.

But that does mean there won’t be any FaithFriends for a couple of weeks. While I’m away from the pulpit we will have ABWE Missionaries Alan & Katherine Niles (in prefield ministry going to Togo, Africa) on Sunday, August 19th. Then the next Sunday, August 26th, we will have two of our own men speaking: Jim Todd will preach the morning message and Dan Noyes the evening message.

TIME FOR A SMILE

A couple drove down a country road for several miles, not saying a word. An earlier discussion had led to an argument and neither of them wanted to concede their position.
As they passed a barnyard of mules, goats, and pigs, the husband asked sarcastically, “Relatives of yours?”
“Yep,” the wife replied , “in-laws!”

“Cash, check, or charge?” the cashier asked, after placing in a bag items the woman wished to purchase. As she fumbled for her wallet the cashier noticed a remote control for a television set in her purse. “So, do you always carry your TV remote?” the cashier asked.
“No,” the woman replied, ” but my husband refused to come shopping with me, and I figured this was the most evil thing I could do to him legally.”

Three-year-old Mark, accidentally spilled his fruit punch on the floor one day. He decided to clean up the mess himself and dashed to the back porch to get the mop. Suddenly realizing it was dark outside, he became apprehensive about reaching out the door for the mop.
His mother reminded him Jesus is everywhere—even in the dark.
Mark thought for a minute. Then, putting his face to the door, he said, “Jesus, if you’re out there, will you hand me the mop?”

* Family Bible Classes – 9:30am
* The Adult Class (meeting in the auditorium) continues studying the Old Testament life of David. This week, from II Samuel 7-10 among other things we will see David’s desire to build a temple for the Lord. However, the Lord communicates that he won’t be the one to build it, his son will. Let’s learn from the way David handles this disappointment.

* Morning Worship – 10:45am
* In John 5:31-40, Jesus continues to speak to the Jews seeking to explain how He is equal to God, but not equal as another or separate God. The title of this message is, “Says Who!” It’s as though Jesus is responding to a heckler – “Why should we believe you? You keep making yourself equal with God, well I want to know – SAYS WHO?”

* Evening Celebration – 6:00pm
* This Sunday evening we will consider the topic of “Spiritual Maturity.” We took three weeks to examine the subject of spiritual warfare, an interesting and attention-grabbing topic, for sure. However, I believe that our energy is better directed toward spiritual growth and maturity rather than looking behind every bush and under every rock for Satan and thus giving him more attention than he deserves. So, Lord willing, we will examine the point and process of spiritual maturity.

That’s all for this edition of FaithFriends. Pray with me that God’s people will be equipped and encouraged and the lost will hear the good news of the Gospel and trust Christ for their salvation!

Pastor Harriman
