September 13 – FaithFriends

Friends of Faith Baptist of North Chili,

It sure feels (and looks) like Fall is here. It was 47 degrees this morning and some leaves are turning (I love it)! We started up our Olympian and Teen clubs last night. There were 19 children who came to Olympians and we’d only set fifteen as our goal. So, we’re off to a great start, praise the Lord!

Would you pray with me as we anticipate two events this October. We desire God’s blessing in and on both of them:

October 6 (Sat.) – we will host a Balanced Evangelism seminar with Pete Mothershead. The basic seminar will run from 9am to 1pm – it will help us discern our gifts for witnessing and help us progress from a method of evangelism to a natural way of sharing our faith. There is an advanced seminar from 1pm to 3pm for those who are ready to get more involved in personal evangelism. We invited sister churches and trust it will be an encouragement to this part of New York state.

October 27 – 30, our Fall Bible Conference with Pastor T.W. Teall of Canton, Ohio. The theme for the conference is: “Our Holy God and His Healthy Church.” We will begin on Saturday night with a carry-in dinner and message, then on Sunday Pastor Teall will minister during the SS hour as well as both Morning and Evening. We will also have services on Monday and Tuesday nights.

TIME FOR A SMILE

Did you know: The part of the automobile that is responsible for most accidents is the nut holding the steering wheel.

Do you know the customer who called tech support…
Tech Support: “I need you to right-click on the Open Desktop.”
Customer: “OK.”
Tech Support: “Did you get a pop-up menu?”
Customer: “No.”
Tech Support: “OK. Right-Click again. Do you see a pop-up menu?”
Customer: “No.”
Tech Support: “OK, sir. Can you tell me what you have done up until this point?”
Customer: “Sure. You told me to write ‘click’ so I wrote ‘click’. Twice.”

I wish I’d thought of this:
Caller: “I deleted a file from my PC last week and I just realized that I need it. So, if I turn my system clock back two weeks will I get my file back again?”

Sunday, September 16, 2007

* Family Bible Classes – 9:30am
* The Adult Class (meeting in the auditorium) will be taught by Dan Noyes (Pastor will be teaching a new member class for the next six weeks). Dan will take three weeks to reaffirm the sufficiency and primacy of Scripture in evangelism, in a series titled, “Biblical Discernment and Evangelism.” The first week (this Sunday) will focus on sharpening individual skills in the area of Biblical discernment – it will be a very practical lesson so we are better equipped to defend and share Christ. The next week will take a look at Islam in light of Biblical Christianity (and the importance of keeping the Bible as our foundation for truth), and the third week will focus on Biblical Christianity’s Confrontation with the Emerging Church (what happens when a group deviates from the Bible as their sole authority in all matters of faith and practice).

* Morning Worship – 10:45am
* In John 6:15-21, we find John’s account of Jesus “Walking On Water.” Matthew tells us that Peter walked on the water to Jesus, until he looked away and began to sink. Both Matthew and Mark say that when Jesus got in the boat the wind ceased. John doesn’t include those details of the story – so what is John’s purpose in telling us about Jesus’ stroll on the sea? We will consider that together as we study this text.

* Evening Celebration – 6:00pm
* This Sunday evening we will continue our brief series on Spiritual Maturity. So far we have examined “Spiritual Maturity – The Purpose” (from Eph. 4:7-16 we learned that the goal is Christ-likeness) and “Spiritual Maturity – The Process” (from Philippians 3:12-16 we learned that we have not arrived or attained, we are works-in-progress, God is not finished with us yet). This week, from three different passages we will study “Spiritual Maturity – The Resources.”

That’s all for this edition of FaithFriends. Pray with me that God’s people will be equipped and encouraged and the lost will hear the good news of the Gospel and trust Christ for their salvation!

Your faithful Minister of the Word,
Pastor Harriman
