September 20 – FaithFriends

Friends of Faith Baptist of North Chili,

I trust this letter finds you well and growing in your walk with the Lord. As you will see from the information below, we are starting a series on Prayer in our evening services. At this moment it is a bit open-ended. I haven’t finalized the complete list of texts and/or topics I will address. So, if you have some specific questions about prayer, I invite you to send them to me. Perhaps the Lord will lead us to use that question and a Biblical answer to encourage your friends at Faith Baptist of North Chili.

Thank you for your interest and prayer as we serve the Lord together here.

TIME FOR A SMILE

A man was driving down the road. He passed a traffic camera and saw it flash.
Astounded that he had been caught speeding when he was doing the speed limit, he turned around and, going even slower, he passed by the camera.
Again, he saw it flash. He couldn’t believe it, so he turned and, going a snail’s pace, he passed the camera. Again, he saw the camera flash. He guessed it must have a fault, and home he went.
Four weeks later he received three traffic fines in the mail, all for not wearing a seatbelt.

After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form, called a ‘gripe sheet,’ which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight. Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas’ pilots (marked with a P) and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.

By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never, ever, had an accident.

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Something loose in cockpit.
S: Something tightened in cockpit

P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on backorder.

P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you’re right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.

P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to straighten up, fly right, and be serious.

P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget

* Family Bible Classes – 9:30am
* The Adult Class (meeting in the auditorium) will be taught by Dan Noyes (Pastor is teaching a new member class). Dan is taking three weeks to reaffirm the sufficiency and primacy of Scripture in evangelism, in a series titled, “Biblical Discernment and Evangelism.” Last Sunday he focused on sharpening individual skills in the area of Biblical discernment – it will be a very practical lesson so we are better equipped to defend and share Christ. This Sunday will be a look at “Islam in light of Biblical Christianity” (and the importance of keeping the Bible as our foundation for truth), and the third week will focus on Biblical Christianity’s Confrontation with the Emerging Church (what happens when a group deviates from the Bible as their sole authority in all matters of faith and practice).

* Morning Worship – 10:45am
* In John 6:22-29, we find the answer to the question, “what shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus’ response was simple and clear: “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” So the title for this message is, “This Is the Work of God.”

* Evening Celebration – 6:00pm
* This Sunday evening we will begin a series on Prayer. When a doctrinal student at Princeton asked, “What is there left in the world for original dissertation research?” Albert Einstein replied, “Find out about prayer. Somebody must find out about prayer.” That will be our task for the next few weeks – to find out about prayer. It won’t result in a dissertation, but hopefully will have some practical application for our spiritual growth. This week, “What Is The Point Of Prayer?” – for those who wonder things like why ask God for specific requests when He has said He already knows our needs and promises to care for us. Or, why pray since God is both omniscient and sovereign (we don’t need to tell Him what’s going on, He already knows; and since He is sovereign, He is already doing whatever He wills to do). We may end up asking more questions than we answer, but we will address the main questions, “What is the point of prayer?” and “Why pray?”

That’s all for this edition of FaithFriends. Pray with me that God’s people will be equipped and encouraged and the lost will hear the good news of the Gospel and trust Christ for their salvation!
